From Me To You - February 2010

Brother Jacob’s BLOG
If you are an animal lover, as I am, you have noticed that animals are very habitual and tolerant. For the most part they enjoy a routine in their lives, and (this is important) they seldom, if ever, are worried about the future. God has made them to be this way.
There is an old joke that says: “You could lock your dog in the trunk of your car for 3 days, and, when you let him out, he would be happy to see you.”
I am sure that birds become uncomfortable in the winter wind and cold, but I have never heard a bird complain about it being a “bad day”.
As I said, animals are habitual. Anyone who has owned a dog soon realizes that their pet thrives with routine in their lives.
Humans are not made to be this way. We have been given superior spirits and brains. We can acquire knowledge. We can, if we obey God, even acquire wisdom to a limited degree.
With our superior knowledge and wisdom comes grief and sorrow.
Eccl 1 :18
18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. KJV
When it is cold, not only do we know it is cold, but we can visualize a time when it was not cold. This leads to our discontent.
Are you following me here? I am saying that our superior intellect and spiritual wisdom leads to discontent. Our discontent causes us to take on a function that is reserved only for God…We judge.
We begin to judge others as being “good”, or “bad”. We even judge God’s nature that surrounds us. I am sure you have, or have heard someone say, “this is a bad day.”
God is in control. God chooses the weather. Yet, we judge his choice of weather.
In the garden before the fall of man, this was not the case. I believe that, like the animals, Adam & Eve accepted what God gave them without judgement. Also, like the animals, they were content. They lived in the moment, and were free of grief and sorrow.
How can we avoid this grief and sorrow? I believe that the answer comes from being still, and listening to the Holy Spirit that dwells within you. He will point out Jesus in every person. He will point out Jesus in every situation in our lives.
By listening to the Spirit, and following Him in each moment, we can avoid the pitfall of judgment.
Ps 46:10-11
10 Be still, and know that I amGod: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. KJV
In my next blog I will discuss how judgement leads to anger.
